How to refinance Prestige Finance loan on a Nissan Altima?

Updated: Aug 13, 2020

Hi my name is Ricardo! I’m 36 years old. My parents immigrated to the U.S. before I was born.

We’re a big family, I’m one of 4 kids. My oldest sister was born before my parents moved to the U.S. and the other 3 kids including myself were born in the U.S.

Family is what’s most important to us! We usually spend the weekends together.

I’m married and have two kids, a baby girl and a 4 year old boy.

My parents started a cleaning business when they settled in the U.S.

I joined the family business a couple of years ago.

We are very proud of our company.

We are focussed on commercial cleaning, i.e. offices, warehouses etc. We have a second company that’s specialized on carpet cleaning

I’m employed in both companies. That’s why I receive two pay stubs every other week (i.e. two W2 documents).

I’m a manager now, i.e. I need to commute A LOT.

I live just outside of Atlanta and commute almost 40,000 miles a year. Yes, that’s A LOT!

We all work very hard, usually 6 days a week and every day I spend around 3 hours in the car.

I have two cars: My 2015 Acura TSX, which is a little banged up and has 180,000 miles on the odometer. And I just bought a 2019 Nissan Altima last year.

I’m really excited about the Nissan Altima, it’s the fully loaded version. I try to keep mileage down and only use it every other day. When I don’t use it, the car is parked at my house in the car part.

I’m currently renting a place but the dream is to buy a house.

Right now, I’m trying to figure out how to save some money. I do have an iPhone, which is cool!

I’m paying $718 monthly for my Nissan Altima. The interest rate is 20.76% and the name of the lender is PRESTIGE FINANCIAL.

I got my loan at the Nissan dealership, had never heard of them before.

I did not have a co-signer. My wife is a stay home mom and doesn’t have any regular income. Adding her to the credit application wouldn’t have improved my interest rate, the dealer said.

I must admit, I really don’t like that company PRESTIGE FINANCIAL. They are rude to me! Every time I call, they’re treating me poorly.

I want to get out of that loan. I’m so upset that I’m even considering to just stop making payments.

My credit score is 584. I know, it’s not great and that’s why I’m trying to save money and improve it.

I don’t exactly know how the credit score works but I have only just started using credit at all and so I’m in the phase of building my credit.

I have two credit cards. Both of them have low limits until I improve my score I guess. I’m currently using 59% of my credit limit on average.

When I bought my Nissan, I had to put $1,000 cash down.

I remember the dealer convinced me to buy GAP insurance and an Extended Warranty. I hadn’t heard about any of these products but the GAP insurance made sense to me.

GAP cost $700.

I didn’t think I needed the Extended Warranty, my uncle is a car mechanic and he typically helps me if my car has problems.

But the dealer insisted and ended up giving me a ding, dent and windshield protection insurance for free so I agreed to the Extended Warranty.

The Extended Warranty cost $2,000. I haven’t used it and I think it is only good until 39,000 miles.

So now the question is, how do I reduce my monthly payments?

I’m currently also paying $262 on my Liberty Mutual insurance policy.

Before gas, I’m paying about $1,000 per month to have the Nissan. Feels a lot. Much more than I had planned.

Now I feel a little stuck and don’t know what to do.
