How do I cancel my GAP insurance or service contract?

Updated: Aug 8, 2020

When you bought your car, the dealership probably recommended you buy GAP insurance or get an extended service contract.

Guess what:

  • These insurance products were overpriced. The dealer has over 100% markup on these products

  • The good news is that they are cancellable and you can get some money back

If you still need the same coverage, you can purchase it for ½ price. Furthermore, often you won’t even need GAP insurance anymore since your car is probably now worth more than your loan (and hence you’re paying for useless insurance).

To save money - try to find the company that is your GAP or VSC service provider - often you got brochures or a company name when you bought the car. If you simply call these companies up - you can find the pro-rated refund when you call to cancel. Its THAT easy.
